Why I built MyNore
A tool for checking whether cargo fits in a container from dimensions and weight alone — without asking your forwarder every time.
Why this exists
Every time I needed to know how many pieces would fit in a container, I sketched the box on paper or split an Excel sheet into tiny cells and filled them in by hand. It was slow, and a small change in cargo dimensions meant starting over.
When I needed a reliable answer, I ended up asking our forwarder — at the quotation stage, again whenever the cargo spec changed, and once more before confirming. Asking every time felt like an imposition. So I built a tool that gives the answer as soon as you enter dimensions and weight. That tool is MyNore.
Who built it
Mars — I spent about ten years working as an expatriate in the Middle East and have handled equipment and logistics work hands-on. Loading equipment into containers and trucks, shipping it and unloading it on site, I saw more than once how a plan that fits on paper can fail in practice. MyNore's calculation rules and guide articles are built on that experience.
How MyNore calculates
- Single-layer mode — one layer on the floor, largest footprint first. With rotation allowed, both orientations are tried.
- Multi-layer mode — tower-first stacking: one floor position is filled up to its max tier before moving on. The widest cargo forms the base and smaller cargo is mixed into the remaining height.
- Weight rule — the load on top of an item is limited to (max tiers − 1) × its own weight. Heavier cargo is never placed on lighter cargo.
- Containers and trucks — ocean containers (20ft, 40ft, 40ft HC and more) and wing-body / box-truck beds are calculated the same way.
Principles
- No sign-up. Cargo details stay in your browser and are never sent to a server.
- Results are for reference. Before shipping, always check the CSC plate on the container door, your carrier's or forwarder's measured specs, and the rated capacity of the handling equipment.
- If you find a wrong result or something that doesn't match reality on site, let me know and I'll review and fix it.
